Our Story

In September 2019, founder Megan Castle started her day off with her dad David for what was to be a long day of volleyball tournaments. Upon being dropped off later that evening, Megan’s dad told her he would see her in the morning. Unfortunately, that wouldn’t happen, that night Megan’s dad David had a heart attack. March 2020, Megan’s grief became compounded with mixed emotions, unexplained anxiety. Megan felt like she had no peers to relate to. Although surrounded by loved one’s family and friends, Megan felt alone, no one related to what Megan was experiencing. Bottling up unspoken emotions, Megan found herself suppressing her feelings alone. Megan then in that moment decided with the assistance of her high school counselor, to organize a brunch bringing together 12 middle and high school peers who have also experienced the loss of a parent.   In hopes of creating a safe space among her peers to have open dialogue, shared feelings and emotion check-ins while creating bonds.  In what started as just a brunch, Megan immediately realized there was a need for creating this safe space on a broader landscape.   David’s Daughter was established to address so many other children who find themselves in the same place Megan’s been in.
